Visitors to the Peak District can feast on fine local food and drink, cherry pick premier places to stay and lap up the cream of creative talent thanks to two new publications blending the perfect recipe for a quality holiday.

Food from the Peak District, Peak District Farm Holidays and Peak District Products have pooled their resources to put the area on the map for discerning tourists seeking the very best places to stay, shop and eat.

The handy pocket-sized, new look Savour the Flavour of the Peak District and Peak District Farm Holidays booklet – also targeted at local lovers of the finer things in life - highlights the top places to eat and source local food and drink, plus a choice selection of hotels, B&Bs, working farms and self-catering cottages.

It also features details of food and drink events throughout the year, including the Derbyshire Food & Drink Fair in May and Great Peak District Fair in October and Farmers’ Markets.

Food from the Peak District

A group of food producers, pubs, hotels, restaurants and B&Bs proud to put quality local produce on the menu – has taken the opportunity to launch the new Food from the Peak District Club in the flagship publication.

Anyone can apply to join, free of charge, to keep up to date with local food and drink news, events, offers and recipes via a regular newsletter, plus the chance to enter competitions and win a variety of delicious prizes.

An association of award-winning, nationally and internationally recognised fine artists, designer makers and artisans based in and around the area – has also just published its own updated guide with full details of its diverse and talented members.

From ceramicists to contemporary artisans and fine artists to furniture makers, they create first-class works of art, craft and design for anyone seeking to take home a distinctively local souvenir of their stay.

Members – who also include fine food suppliers, jewellers, silversmiths, photographers and textile designers – offer a range of galleries, shops, studios and workshops to visit.

They also stage the annual, free Great Dome Art Fair at the University of Derby Buxton’s Royal Devonshire Campus, which last year attracted more than 6,000 visitors. More than 60 will display their work and will provide a busy programme of free talks and demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25, from 10am to 4.30pm, and admission is free.

“Not only is it one of the most beautiful places in Britain, the Peak District also offers a banquet of fine food and drink producers and suppliers, a wide range of quality places to stay and some of the best artists, craftspeople and designers, both in this country and abroad,” said Sheila Russell, Project Leader, Food from the Peak District.

“We’ve produced the Savour the Flavour guide for the past few years to give both tourists and local people a flavour of the best places to buy or eat local produce – but this year we’ve decided to broaden its scope to give visitors an all-round quality experience when they come to the area.

“The idea is that, as well as staying in excellent, eco-friendly accommodation and enjoying responsibly reared or produced food and drink, they’ll also be able to take home, beautifully-made mementoes, crafted with care, to remind them of their visit – and will hopefully be keen to return.”
